Terms of Service

By downloading, installing, or using Recode (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use the App. If you are under 18, you may use the App only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

Recode is a self-help productivity tool designed to help you manage screen time. It is not a medical, psychological, or therapeutic service, and nothing in the App constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have concerns about compulsive device use or your mental health, consult a qualified professional.

We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial purposes, in accordance with these Terms and Apple's App Store terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works of the App, or use it in any unlawful way.

The App's core purpose is to intentionally restrict access to apps, categories, and websites that YOU select, on schedules and timers that YOU configure. Commitment features — including schedules, quick blocks, unlock codes, and Strict Mode — are voluntary and are designed to be difficult to bypass. In particular, while Strict Mode is enabled and any block is active, iOS prevents deleting apps from your device, and Strict Mode itself cannot be turned off until all blocks end. By enabling these features you accept full responsibility for their effects, including being unable to access blocked apps, delete apps, or change settings for the duration of a block. You are solely responsible for keeping your unlock code available; a lost unlock code may leave features inaccessible until active blocks end.

Do not block apps or configure restrictions in a way that could endanger you or others, and do not rely on the App in situations where access to your device could be urgent. The App is not designed to restrict emergency calling, but you accept sole responsibility for what you choose to block and when. You are also solely responsible for missed notifications, messages, or other communications during a block.

• The App offers auto-renewing subscriptions through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Current prices are shown in the App before purchase.
• Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID account settings at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and no partial refunds are provided by us.
• Refund requests are handled exclusively by Apple and are subject to Apple's policies. We cannot issue refunds for purchases made through the App Store.
• Subscription prices may change; any change applies only to future billing periods and Apple will notify you as required.

All App data (schedules, unlock codes, streaks, settings) is stored only on your device. We do not collect or store your personal information, and we cannot recover your data if it is lost or if you delete the App. See our Privacy Policy for details. You are responsible for maintaining your own device backups.

The App, including its design, code, graphics, and content, is owned by the developer of Recode and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any ownership rights in the App. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

The App relies on Apple system frameworks and services (including Screen Time APIs and In-App Purchases), which are governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policy. These Terms are between you and the developer of Recode only, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App and is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT BLOCKING WILL FUNCTION IN EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE. BLOCKING DEPENDS ON APPLE'S SCREEN TIME SYSTEM, WHICH IS OUTSIDE OUR CONTROL AND MAY CHANGE, FAIL, OR BE DISABLED BY OPERATING SYSTEM SETTINGS, UPDATES, OR PERMISSION CHANGES.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER OF RECODE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OPPORTUNITIES, OR COMMUNICATIONS, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE APP, INCLUDING DAMAGES ARISING FROM BLOCKED ACCESS TO APPS OR DEVICE FEATURES. IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE OR FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS ($50). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN EXCLUSIONS OR LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the developer of Recode from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use or misuse of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it (subject to Strict Mode restrictions while a block is active). We may suspend or terminate your license to use the App at any time if you violate these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 9, 11, 12, and 13) survive.

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version, with a new effective date, will be available in the App. Material changes take effect when posted, and your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the developer's place of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to first contact us to attempt to resolve any dispute informally before pursuing formal proceedings, and any claim must be brought within one (1) year of the events giving rise to it.

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Apple's Standard EULA, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the App.
